Technical Artist, VR focused

Want to work in VR? We are actively seeking artists with a technical inclination to join us to create multiple VR games. We are currently working on AirMech: Command, and have another larger VR project immediately following it.

Experience in VR not required! But you do have to use VR to see your work as part of the feedback loop. Seeing things in VR is very different than on a flat screen. It is important that you have tried VR before and are comfortable with this requirement, as we are entirely focused on VR with this position.

So far we find that most art in VR involves modeling, more than in non-VR games. Being able to model is important for prototyping and experimenting. The ability to manipulate textures is also important, but it is not expected to have amazing texturing skills.

Basic requirements:
- interested in making VR games
- portfolio as attachment, or website link
- list of games/projects you have worked on
- proficient at 3D modeling in 3dsmax
- mapping/texturing 3D assets

At least 2 bonus skills:
- animation (junior ok)
- illustration
- User Interface
- game design
- scripting
- programming (C/C++)
- community interaction

All art positions are 3 month trial contracts. At the conclusion of the 3 month trial, contractors will be considered for fulltime status with benefits. Compensation rate depends on experience and ability.

Please don't forget to provide a link to some of your work!

Technical Designer for VR

Be a VR Pioneer
=============
What is a designer anyway? Someone who can come up with ideas, and in this case it helps a ton to have some decent 3D and 2D skills to be able to test out your ideas. Plus you'll want to be able to do some scripting to hook things up, and know when to ask a programmer when things get serious.

There are no VR designers yet, which means everyone is a VR designer. Getting your head inside VR, imagining what is needed to create some UI bit, make some cool gameplay, or just make someone smile--these are the things you will need to be ready to dive into.

We're finishing up AirMech: Command as a launch title for the Oculus Rift, and right after we're diving into an even bigger, original VR project! So when we say "for VR", we're very serious about that.

We are open to all kinds of candidates. You can be an industry veteran with decades of experience, or fresh out of high school and you've been doing game mods instead of your homework. We are results oriented, and if you can do the work we want you to join us!

Below is a list of things that might qualify you to work as a Technical Designer in VR, but it's not firm. Don't meet the requirements, or have skills that we forgot to include? Tell us, sell us on why you have what it takes to make some amazing VR experiences.

* Passionate about VR
* Ok spending a lot of time in VR
* Comfortable with scripting, editing text files, command line
* Can use Photoshop or similar to create or modify textures
* Can use 3dsmax (preferred) or Maya to create or modify models (or animations?)
* Local to Bellevue, WA
* Fluent in spoken English
(last two points are because communication and discussion are critical within the team to share ideas and experiences around VR)

Some things which are NOT required:

* Immunity to motion sickness--we are making comfortable experiences, so being immune to discomfort in VR could be seen as a disadvantage!
* Be a hardcore gamer--our goal is not to make hardcore games, we want to make experiences that literally anyone can enjoy.
